We don’t read and write poetry because
it’s cute. We read and write poetry
because we are members of the human race.
And the human race is filled with passion.
Medicine, law, business, engineering,
these are all noble pursuits, and necessary
to sustain life. But poetry, beauty,
romance, love, these are what we stay alive
for. To quote from Whitman: “O me, o life
of the questions of these recurring, of the
endless trains of the faithless, of cities
filled with the foolish. What good amid
these, o me, o life? Answer: that you are
here. That life exists, and identity.
That the powerful play goes on, and you
may contribute a verse.”

That the powerful play goes on,
and you may contribute a verse.

What will your verse be?

- Mr. Keating, “dead poets society”

i want to play music

that rises with the wind,
that falls with the rain,

that gives life,
that eases into death,

and reignites back to life

that slows to a tug,
before yanking you awake

with simplicity that defies senses
an invitation to abandon logic

the ability to summon tears
with no more than three notes

the courage to paint murals
with less than a dab

music to swoon to,
and sing along with

the first time it’s heard.

independent of time,
a tune that governs perception

frees cliches that are grasped
in clenched fists

take another breath
an emotion laced breath,
and slowly sigh out the truth
that burrows deep in our hearts.

new laptop,

new possibilities.

stay tuned

isolate,
because things aren’t right

and how to make things right
amongst the broken, the torn, the fragmented?

quarantine!
how else could one figure this mess out

check it outtt! i have about five images ready to upload, so you’ll get a week’s worth of daily updates at LEAST :P

i know i haven’t been posting for the past couple of months, and it’s not even like nothing’s happening, there’s so much stuff to talk about, and maybe that in itself is making me lazy to start posting again. so i figured i won’t make the lost posts such a big deal. i’ll get to it whenever, but i have to keep moving on and posting things about today, and tomorrow. there’s always time for the past. so here’s a poem i wrote in my poetry class. this took me about five minutes. i wrote a few more, i’ll be posting those in the coming days (hopefully). the title of the poem is the title of the post.

**************************************

It’s 6am now, and I’ve grown used to the
cold park bench,
wet with morning dew.

It’s a weekend, I think;
there aren’t many cars on the road
next to the empty playground I try to get some rest in.

Well,
almost empty.

A couple of early risers have jogged by me in the past hour,
and I can see an older oriental couple
practicing Tai-Chi in the distance.

The birds started chirping around 4:30;
I’m not feeling as hopeless as I felt earlier that night

The buses start running at 9,
still have quite a bit of time to kill.
I’m cold but I can’t go back to that Timmies a third time.

So I get up and walk,
nowhere in particular,
but moving still.

Most of you must have heard about the mass devastation caused by Cyclone
Sidr in the southern parts of Bangladesh. The death toll has passed 3000,
and is rising everyday. Please help support the survivors of this atrocity
by donating online @ www.drishtipat.org . (Tax deductable for those of you
in the States)

The funds collected through Drishtipat are going to be used in two phases.
During the first phase, funds raised immedeately will be channelled to
Bangladesh through BRAC US and BRAC UK on November 30th (
http://www.brac.net/news.htm). These funds will be used for immdiate needs
of the survivors, such as – food, water, medicine, and supplies.

The second phase of the funds collected will be donated towards the massive
global campaign of the United Bangladesh Appeal (
http://www.unitedbangladeshappeal.org/ ). This campaign pledges to raise
$500,000 to provide assistance to the surviving families. The total amount
of funds raised will be divided among survivors in order to provide the
means of rebuilding lives in the affected areas. This appeal, administered
and organized by volunteers worldwide will ensure minimal overhead costs,
and will provide us with a credible way to play a significant role in
helping out with the rehabilitation process.

If you have any questions or concerns, and if you would like to help out in
raising funds, please email us at info@drishtipat.ca . Also, we would really
appreciate it if you would pass this message on to your friends and family
as you find appropriate:)

Thank you for your support! Lets work together as a global team of
Bangladeshis, helping out our friends who survived…

In solidarity…
